Volunteer Spotlight: Mo Holliday

By September 5, 2024Volunteer

One of the most unique things about Greater Indy Habitat is the longevity of some of our wonderful corporate partners. One of those companies that has helped for over 27 years is Carrier Corporation. Many of their employees have been coming out to volunteer on the Carrier-sponsored build for a long time. One of those compassionate people is Mo, who has volunteered for the past eight years alongside her coworkers.

Mo says that volunteering with Greater Indy Habitat has been a deeply rewarding experience for her. One of the things that Mo loves the most is watching the progress of the house as it’s built. “There’s something incredibly satisfying about starting with just a foundation and then, week by week, seeing the walls go up, the roof go on, and the whole structure come together. It’s watching the dream for a family come to life.”

Over the past eight years, Mo has also had the chance to pick up some new skills. She used to think that painting walls was a simple and easy task. After volunteering with Habitat, she was able to learn that there are some tricks to make sure the painting is high-quality and done efficiently. There’s always something new to learn, and Mo really enjoys the hands-on experience. But it’s not just about the work itself—it’s also about the people she gets to work with.

One of the highlights for Mo is interacting with coworkers who are on different shifts. In the regular work environment, their paths might never cross, but out on the Habitat site, everyone works together as one team. It’s a great way for Mo to bond with people she wouldn’t normally see and to feel like part of something bigger. The Carrier employees all come together with the same goal in mind, and that sense of teamwork is truly fulfilling.

For Mo, volunteering with Habitat is fun and exciting, and it’s a real accomplishment to know she is helping build a home for a deserving family. There’s nothing quite like standing back at the end of the day (probably covered in paint and a little bit of sweat!) and seeing the tangible results of her hard work. It’s a feeling that keeps Mo coming back year after year!
