Kristin has been a dedicated volunteer with Greater Indy Habitat since 2022. Her journey with Habitat began through one of our wonderful corporate sponsorship partners, Hancock Health, where she works in family medicine. What initially started as a group volunteering effort through work has turned into a personal passion for Kristin. She loves working alongside the Habitat homebuyers, describing their excitement and energy as “contagious.” The joy and anticipation the homebuyers feel as they prepare to enter a new chapter in life have become a significant motivator for her to keep coming back.
While Kristin has volunteered with many different organizations in her life, she has started to dedicate some of her time and energy to Greater Indy Habitat. Over the past two years, Kristin has volunteered nine times, including four times this past year alone. She often volunteers on her days off, demonstrating her dedication to making a difference in her community. Each time she volunteers, she learns something new. One of her favorite aspects of the experience is learning about the First Time Homeownership program, particularly the budgeting classes and other financial training that homebuyers receive. She finds it inspiring to see firsthand how Habitat empowers families through financial education, helping them achieve long-term success.
For Kristin, volunteering with Habitat is a fun, rewarding, and inspiring experience. She cherishes the chance to contribute to something meaningful while also having a good time. Her advice for those considering getting involved with Habitat is simple: start small. “You don’t need to be able to commit to a lot,” she says, noting that there are many ways to support Habitat’s mission, whether through volunteering on build sites, donating your well-loved furniture and unused building materials to the ReStore, or other avenues of giving.
Kristin’s passion for Habitat is clear in everything she does, and her involvement has made a lasting impact on the families she has served and her own perspective on community service.
