Volunteer Spotlight: Amber Ely

By October 11, 2024Volunteer, Women Build

Meet Amber, who just finished her inaugural year as a Women Build Team Leader, guiding her team, “That Girl…Can Build!” Her journey with Women Build began when she first heard about it through her work at Roche Diagnostics. Although last year, she missed the chance to join an already full team recruited by a coworker in the Roche Women’s Alliance group, Amber was undeterred. This year, she stepped up with determination to lead her very own team!

As a first-time team leader, Amber admits she experienced some nervousness but soon discovered that leading was more straightforward than she had anticipated. A significant part of being a successful Women Build Team Leader is the ability to be an excellent inviter. Amber was able to gather a motivated group of women who wanted to contribute meaningfully to their community. Her primary focus was to create an environment where her team felt encouraged and motivated every step of the way.

One thing Amber learned in her first year is the importance of attending the events. These events foster a deeper connection to the mission and allow for meaningful interactions with the homeowners. Now, as Amber looks forward to her second year as a Team Leader, she’s even more excited to build on that connection.

A particularly emotional moment for Amber was during a home dedication. Usually not one to get emotional, she was deeply moved when a young daughter of one of the homeowners expressed heartfelt thanks to her mother for all her hard work. It was a powerful reminder of how being a part of the Women Build is building the foundation for lasting change in families’ lives.

Amber calls being a part of the Women Build a ‘win-win’ for herself, and any other Women Builder involved. The obvious ‘win’ is the opportunity to give back and instill hope within the community. But Amber also believes that every participant gains something in return, whether it’s the empowerment from learning a new skill or the joy of forming new friendships. She encourages everyone to discover their personal ‘why’ and join the Women Build in 2025.

We are currently recruiting women interested in leading a team for the 2025 Women Build. Team leaders are invaluable to the success of this build. Their primary responsibility is to recruit a team of 11 other women to help volunteer on one build day and to ensure her builders/team reaches the minimum fundraising goal.

If you are interest in leading a team for the upcoming Women Build, please complete our interest form and we will be in touch to discuss the opportunity and answer any questions. Learn more about the Women Build and ways to get involved.
