For 12 years, Women Build has been focused on recruiting, educating, and encouraging women to advocate for decent and affordable housing in their communities. In 2025, the #IndyWomenBuild raised the bar by committing to build four homes for four women-led households, with an ambitious fundraising goal of $500,000.
This Mother’s Day, we’re especially proud to spotlight a few of the many mother-daughter duos who are building alongside one another. Each volunteer has their own reason for being part of this work, and to see multiple generations giving back together is a powerful reminder of how community and legacy are built.
Here from these builders on what volunteering with Women Build means to them.

Micki & Lucy
“My mother has been with Women Build for a long time and it’s always inspiring to me. She always came home talking about the new power tool she learned to use on her build day. It’s amazing to see, in person, how Habitat bonds women in our community. I’m proud to now be a part of that.” – Lucy Lile
“Growing up, my mother, for a large part of my childhood, was a single mom. We were never homeless, but we did move a lot due to financial constraints. I longed to live in a home like many of my friends. To own my own home someday was one of my biggest goals. To help other families obtain that dream and do it with my own daughter by my side is incredibly fulfilling.” – Micki Lile

Katie & Ally
“My mom, Katie, has always inspired me to help others and care deeply about our community. It’s been amazing to see the many ways she gives back. Now, it feels like it’s my turn to take the lead and bring her alongside me to support causes I care about. I loved building with my mom and showing her how I’ve grown into a leader committed to making a difference, just like she taught me.”– Ally Bright
“My daughter Ally and I have been volunteering together for many years, and we’ve always shared a special bond through giving back to our local community. Watching her excel as a team lead for Women Build made me incredibly proud. Her dedication and passion shine through in everything she does. We had a fun and meaningful day building together! I can’t wait to do it again!!” – Katie Fleckenstein

Jannette & Katherine
“I love being able to help Habitat address the huge issue of the lack of affordable housing while also enjoying spending time with my daughter and both of us learning new skills along the way. It’s a bonus that my mom supports us with financial donations, also. “

We’re proud to share that the 2025 Women Build has already raised nearly $430,000, thanks to the support of our dedicated builders and donors.
As we enter the spring season and continue building toward our goal, we invite you to honor a significant woman in your life—someone who’s played that irreplaceable role only a mother can—by making a gift in her honor.
