Global Village Trip: Building Hope in Ahuachapán
Building Together in El Salvador
Through Habitat for Humanity’s tithe program, our affiliate proudly contributes 10% of our annual revenue to support Habitat’s global ministry in El Salvador and Kenya.
During the week of World Habitat Day, nine volunteers and staff members from our affiliate traveled on a Global Village trip to support El Salvador. The group included representatives from our staff, Tiger Team, Young Professionals group, and corporate partners—each bringing their unique energy and passion to the mission.
In El Salvador, 8 out of 10 families live in inadequate housing conditions.
Since 2010, Habitat El Salvador has been addressing this challenge through the “Building Hope in Ahuachapán” project. This initiative includes 12 communities and focuses on sustainable development through housing, health services, education, income generation, and leadership training. Our Indy team was a part of Phase 2 of this project by building a home for the Cadenas family in Los Magueyes, Ahuachapán. Throughout the week, volunteers mixed and poured concrete by hand, primed walls for painting, and worked side-by-side with the family and local Habitat staff.
It was a reminder that we are all #OneHabitat—united by a shared vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Beyond the build, the team had the opportunity to enjoy the local culture by making pupusas, the national dish, and sharing moments in the community.
A highlight was visiting the Centro de Educación Inicial, a school serving 60 children ages 3–7 with early education. We know that stable housing is a foundation for educational success.
We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this meaningful work and to stand in solidarity with our neighbors across the globe.
