A Family’s Gift of Home: Held Family Sponsorship
The Impact of Family Sponsorship
When Andrew and Karin Held first volunteered with Greater Indy Habitat, they showed up to help build a house alongside the Park Tudor community. That single volunteer day planted a seed — one that would grow into a deeper commitment to Habitat’s work.
This year, instead of just volunteering, the Held family sponsored a full home for the Baker family, making it possible for another family to achieve the dream of safe, stable homeownership.
For them, it wasn’t just about giving back; it was about sharing the experience with their kids and embodying Habitat’s mission to bring people together to build homes and strengthen communities.
Over the summer, they showed up on the build site with their two oldest children, working side-by-side with Tyria, the future homeowner. Together, they installed siding, shared laughs, learned new skills, and watched as the home took shape.
When construction was complete, Karin and Tyria walked through the finished house together. In that quiet, joy-filled moment, the two moms found themselves talking about raising teenagers, swapping stories and realizing how much they had in common.
“Building alongside another family showed our kids that home is something we all deserve,” Karin shared.
Their sponsorship didn’t just build a house — it built a connection between two families who might not have otherwise crossed paths. It showed their children that the greatest impact happens when we work alongside others. Habitat’s mission is rooted in connection, bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
When families choose to sponsor a home, they’re helping the mission grow, one home build, one family at a time.
If your family is looking for a hands-on way to make a lasting impact, we invite you to sponsor a Habitat home. You’ll not only help make homeownership possible for another family — you’ll experience the joy of building it with them.
